Hi Amanda, so relived to hear that although Mark will have to make an effort to lose weight, there is something he can do. From reading all your posts, it seems you have such a healthy diet anyway (put me to shame) that it will be quite difficult for him though. Hope you are both feeling ok. Did you have your elbows injected?

Aw thanks Julie....he's been a good man today, declined all the biccies at work and had a reasonably healthy lunch!

He made home made curry tonight which was lovely and has had no dessert at all (the fruit will be forced upon him during the day!LOL)...I have hidden the huge batch of flap jacks Marie made earlier!

No I haven't even been to the GP yet re elbows, I am still not too sure...

Love,
A

Dear Amanda,
Hi there! It's good to hear that Mark has "only" to lose the weight.
I was wondering if his Thyroid might be underactive as I know that
this encourages weight gain.
On his side is the fact that he is a man, because they can eat more than women
and achieve weight loss.
I have a partner who happily munches his way through the biggest piles of junk food
and NEVER gains weight. It makes me furious sometimes, as it seems
to be a genetic lottery as to how much any of us can eat and get away with!
I myself, have lived much of my life, on and off, since having my kids dieting with "Weight Watchers".
Having said that I have not done this for the last 3 or 4 years because I seem to have
reached my easy to stay at weight which is within the B.M.I. (Body mass index, as I am sure you know.)
But the last time I dieted I lost the dreaded 10% of my body weight, so I know that it can be done.
If Mark goes back to walking alongside a strict diet I bet he could achieve the 10% quicker
than he may think.
I found weight watchers worked for me because I had a group of people to be with once a week
who all wanted to achieve a good weight loss. Because lets face it the first couple of weeks on a diet
are pretty tough. (THERE WERE MEN AT THE CLASSS TOO, NOT JUST WOMEN!)
I liked to get weighed in class because it kept me focused on my goal weight.
Also I learned many, many tips on lower calorie cookery from the Weight Watchers classes.
They offer online membership too now with thousands of recipes.
I am a vegetarian, (although I do eat fish now), and even I could find enough recipes and that
was before they went online with thousands of new recipes.
I know I sound like a spokes person for Weight Watchers, which I am not, but it truely helped me
to be a reaonably slim 52 year old.
I wish Mark all the luck in the world with his new regime and feel that he will achieve great things.
Best wishes,
FionaSmile

Aw thank you Fiona, that was a really thoughtful post.

I am sure M will be able to achieve this, and he is already doing well, although he has all the WW info downloaded I'm afarid, no going to meetings for him! LOL

I was very worried they would throw lots of diets at him as we live quite a radical life in terms of eating (think 1,000 years back and that's how we try to eat!LOL- there were no auto-immune diseases then, so it made sense to me 10 years ago!)....

It is his extra eating ....and his great love for all cakes! So this week he has omitted all sweet treats and snack he (apparently) eats at work, and has had smaller portions and walked.

Love,

Amanda

Hi Amanda, how about WeightWatchers or Tesco's online diets. In the past I managed to lose 2 stone with WW online and found it easy. Now thinking of going back once I become more mobile and can exercise to help shed the pounds I've gained since coming down with RA and steroids of course hasn't help.... oh yes and the comfort eating hasn't helped either.Sad

Love,

Barbara

How was your Friday night scrabble last night??

Hi Amanda

You must both be very relieved with the diagnosis. I know it's hard to lose weight, but if it makes a difference to his health, it will be worth it.

Maybe you should make him a star chart!
